Eiichi Okuma began his own business, the manufacture and sales of noodle-making machines

1963 NC controller (OSP) with an absolute position encoder developed in-house
Became Japan’s only comprehensive manufacturer of both machine and control
1964 NC drilling machines and NC grinders launched
1970 Oguchi assembly factory completed (Aichi Prefecture)
1972 Computerized NC (CNC) developed in-house; all Okuma numerically-controlled machines thereafter have been CNC equipped
1976 Opened USA and Europe liaison offices
1980 Main operations relocated from the old headquarters plant (Tsujimachi, Nagoya) to Oguchi
1984 Okuma Machinery Inc established in the US as sales company
1987 Okuma Machine Tools Inc established in the US as production base
1988 Kani Plant, phase 1 completed
Okuma Machinery Handels GmbH and Okuma Service Fur Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH established in Germany
1990 OMG and OSG in Germany merged to form Okuma Europe GmbH
1991 Corporate name changed to Okuma Corporation
