Okuma’s UNIVERSAL CENTER MU-6300V 5-axis vertical machining center received one of the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun’s (Business & Technology Daily News) 2012 Best 10 New Product Awards. Best 10 New Product Awards are given to selected products for their contributions to the development of manufacturing and strengthening of Japan's international competitiveness. Winners are chosen from among all products developed and in practical use in a given year.

The MU-6300V 5-axis vertical machining center can accept large workpiece loads of up to φ830 × 550 mm in height. It manifests its power in process-intensive machining, from single chucking multi-sided machining of complex-shaped parts, such as for aircraft and the energy industry, to simultaneous 5-axis machining and “turning + 5-axis” multitasking. With a trunnion table that uses a roller gear cam drive on the A axis (dual axis drive) and a direct drive motor drive on the C axis, quality machining of multi-sided, complex shapes is performed with high speed, high accuracy positioning and easy, smooth movements.

The newly developed 5-Axis Auto Tuning System easily measures and compensates the geometric error characteristic of 5-axis machines, raising the level of 5-axis machining accuracy. Outstanding thermal stability is also achieved with use of the Thermo-Friendly Concept. Moreover, the burden on operators is reduced with the combination of the Collision Avoidance System and the newly developed OSP-P300M, which greatly improves operability.
