Technology used in the MCR-H (Hyper), Okuma's super high-speed and high-accuracy double-column machining center, has received the Technology Award at the 20th Japanese Society of Die/Mold Technology Awards. The technology for which the award was given is incorporated in the MCR-H (Hyper) double-column machining center. It was developed with a linear motor that operates on a new principle and a design for highly accurate compensation in responding to thermal deformation.
The MCR-H (Hyper) aims to cut finishing time in half and achieve high-speed, high-accuracy feed with the use of Okuma's original PREX linear motors on the X and Y axes. In addition, with the use of the Thermo-Friendly Concept, the effects of thermal deformation from room temperature changes and machine heat are minimized over long machining times. Machining accuracy is greatly improved and lead time for die and mold production is drastically reduced with machining dimensional change over time cut one-fifth.

The Japanese Die/Mold Technology Awards are presented to outstanding die/mold technologies that contribute significantly to the field. The awards were established with the purpose of promoting advances in die/mold technology and the die industry, and Okuma is proud to be honored again this year.
Okuma previously received the Technology Award at the 15th Japanese Society of Die/Mold Technology Awards for our NC data analysis tool to improve die/mold machining surface quality.
