Next-generation Universal Center MU-5000V 5-axis vertical machining center and MU-5000V-L 5-axis vertical multitasking machine
17 Oct 2013

Okuma has launched the Universal Center MU-5000V 5-axis vertical machining center and the Universal Center MU-5000V-L 5-axis vertical multitasking machine both equipped with φ500 tables.

The MU-5000V/5000V-L have machine structures for good workpiece and spindle accessibility. Y travel of 1050 mm (1.6 times that of our previous model) is more than sufficient for the maximum turning diameter of φ700 mm—this axis travel leaves nothing wanting in 5-axis machining.

These machines provide high accuracy indexing, with A-/C-axis indexing of ±0.68 sec/±0.78 sec (actual data, 30% improvement over our previous model). In addition, by combining the Thermo-Friendly Concept and the 5-Axis Auto Tuning System, which achieves greater accuracy on 5-axis machines by automatically measuring and correcting the geometric error between axes in less than 10 minutes, excellent geometric accuracy is maintained even when ambient temperature changes.

The machines also offer high milling and turning capacity. Face milling capacity: 504 cm3/min, turning capacity (turning specifications): 3mm2 (1.5 times that of our previous machine). This machining capacity is ample to meet the demands of difficult-to-machine materials in aerospace and energy industry parts.

The MU-5000V, together with the previously launched MU-6300V, offers the highest productivity in 5-axis machining amid growing internationally demand.
