An Okuma CNC machine tool machinist is among the 150 people selected for the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's 2012 Contemporary Master Craftsman awards.
09 Nov 2012
Okuma’s Isao Oyabu was selected in the Metalworking Section (CNC Machine Tools) of the 2012 Contemporary Master Craftsman awards. The Contemporary Master Craftsman system, under the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, is intended to honor technicians with outstanding skills who are recognized as leaders in their fields.

Mr. Oyabu joined Okuma in 1980. He is a machinist with superior knowledge of NC lathe operation and great skill in the machining of long, thin shafts and thin workpieces, which are difficult with lathe turning. As a Central Trade Skill Test Commissioner and instructor for overseas workshops, he has worked to train a great many machinists. He currently works in Okuma’s Kani Production Department, where he trains younger workers and also resolves many customer issues through guidance in predelivery trial machining and postdelivery product machining as a Chief Engineer.

Mr. Oyabu is the fifth Okuma employee to receive this award, following Kaneaki Takeichi in 2003, Yasuo Miyata in 2005, Yoshiyuki Nakagawa in 2007, and Kosei Masuda in 2008. Okuma is proud to see its employees selected as Contemporary Master Craftsmen, and will continue to work toward spreading the "world of monozukuri."
